Petrina Seale is a Byron Bay based artist working predominantly in painting and drawing around themes relating to landscape, place and belonging. Inspired by the desire to ‘know’ nature more deeply, her artmaking proceeds from quiet and sustained observation of the places she has lived and moved through. Her works suggest an immersion in landscape and a reverence for the beauty of natural forms as detailed studies.
Seminal childhood experiences include free ranging on an island off the West Australian coast, and adult life has seen Petrina residing in and between the South West of WA and northern NSW. Through these influences she has fostered an appreciation for the Australian landscape and the relationships that emerge out of a proximity to it.
Petrina has recently completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Visual Arts) from Southern Cross University. She also has a Certificate II and IV in Visual Arts from North Coast TAFE.
During the many years dedicated to raising her four children she has continued to nurture her lifelong love of art and provide a creative environment for learning. Petrina now works from her studio in a beachside community.
